MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Walton Families,

As we approach the final weeks of the first semester, it's hard to believe how quickly time has flown. With fall final exams on the horizon, it's crucial for students to continue to work hard in their studies. Please be aware that we offer a variety of additional support sessions for students.

Congratulations to our talented fine arts students for their outstanding performance in "The Addams Family" play, as well as the remarkable Band and Orchestra performances and workshops at Disney World.

Further accolades go to our Latin Team, who journeyed to New Haven to compete in the 2023 Yale Certamen, a Latin Academic Bowl. Emerging as the number 1 seed after the preliminary rounds, they ultimately clinched the championship by surpassing top teams from across the country.

PSAT Scores Available from October 4th Administration:

If your 9th or 10th-grade student took the PSAT/NMSQT on October 4th, their scores are now accessible. Students can log in to their College Board account at Student Score Reports (collegeboard.org) to view their scores. If they haven't set up an account, they can do so now. PSAT Scores for 11th Grade Students:

For 11th-grade students who took the PSAT/NMSQT on October 25, their scores will be available on Thursday, November 16.

All of the fall sports have finished their state playoffs with the exception of football, and it has been a fantastic start to the year. Leading the way was the coed competition cheer team that won their first state championship last Saturday. The team entered the competition as the #3 seed, but performed a near flawless routine to bring home the trophy. Both girls and boys cross country competed in the state finals as well. The girls ran a great team race with their five scorers finishing between 11th and 35th to earn a spot on the podium as the state runners-up. The boys finished 12th as a team and #1 runner Joseph Minecci clocked 15:43.92 over the 5K course to win the race and come home a state champion. Fastpitch softball qualified for the state playoffs, finishing their season with a winning record and competing in a Super Regional at North Gwinnett High School. Finally, volleyball marched all the way to the state final match before dropping a 3-1 decision to region rival North Cobb to finish as the state runners-up.

Football, ranked #2 in the state and between #12 and #21 in six different national polls, is in the midst of the state playoffs, defeating Mountain View 66-7 in the first round last week and hosting North Gwinnett this Friday at 7:30pm in the Valley.

Best regards,
Richard Tischler, Principal

MESSAGE FROM THE CO-PRESIDENTS

So much to be thankful for, Walton Community.

As we head into our Thanksgiving break, it’s a great time to reflect on all that we have for which to be thankful. As new families join our Walton community, our PTSA membership continues to grow thanks to our great Membership programming team!

Our PTSA was able to help provide volunteers for the Walton Counseling’s Apply to College Day on November 1st. Walton Seniors were able to schedule appointments for hands-on college application help with Walton counselors and college representatives. All applications submitted on Georgia’s Apply to College Day are free as application fees are waived! November is Georgia’s Apply to College Month, and 46 Georgia colleges and schools are waiving application fees, so go to GAfutures.org for more info. Thanks to Dr. Rebecca England and the parents who were there to help our Seniors!

On November 15th, PTSA parent volunteers supported WEB Wellness Wednesday with Walton Counseling department and Art it Out. Students and Teachers registered for a WEB block to take time to make Fire Art and experience the benefits of art for well-being. This program with Art It Out is in demand with our students and school community, and PTSA is glad to provide support to bring it back this school year!

Our Attendance PPO, Front Office, and Copy Crew committees continue to provide steady support to our Walton Community every day. Huge thanks to all the parents who regularly volunteer in these important daily operations at Walton!

As we return from Thanksgiving break, the PTSA will continue with events such as our annual staff Holiday Luncheon in December, and the January General Meeting along with a presentation of the Seven Deadly Sins from Deborah Craytor of the State Bar of Georgia’s Law-Related Education program. Please check our website for ongoing opportunities to volunteer and connect at Walton, and Happy Thanksgiving!

With Gratitude for your support of Walton PTSA!
Caroline Whaley and Vicky Rice, PTSA Co-Presidents

FOUNDATION NEWS

The Walton Foundation has been busy lately! Due to the popularity of our late summer Study Skills Seminars hosted by learning specialist Natalie Collins M.Ed, the Foundation hosted a third event to accommodate those students who were not able to make the first two sessions! Students and parents learned how to take effective notes and to utilize class and study resources offered at Walton. Thanks to our Foundation Board members, Caroline Tyler and Cathi Johnson, for hosting all three events!

Did you know that donors who give $250+ to the Walton High School Foundation receive an exclusive invitation to quarterly coffee chats with Mr. Tischler and a commemorative magnet? The next coffee chat is happening soon so make your donation by December.

Please visit our website for more information and upcoming events.

WALTON COUNSELING

Students and faculty recently participated in a unique wellness activity that involved creating art using ceramic tiles and fire. The event was held on November 15 during WEB blocks. Students and staff were able to relax and de-stress while also expressing their creativity.

The activity was sponsored by the counseling department and led by Art it Out.  This wellness activity is the second event held during WEB to help promote positive coping skills for students and staff.

Fire art is a creative process that involves using fire to create designs on ceramic tiles. The heat from the fire causes the paint to spread and creates a unique and beautiful art piece. The process of creating fire art can be very therapeutic, as it allows participants to release stress and express their emotions in a safe and healthy way.

The event was a huge success! Students and staff reported feeling relaxed, de-stressed, and more connected to their creativity. In addition to finding the activity relaxing and creative, participants also appreciated the opportunity to connect with each other and expressed their gratitude for having a wellness activity available just before Thanksgiving.

WALTON BAND

The Walton marching band enjoyed a four-night trip to Orlando at the beginning of November. We enjoyed several Disney World theme parks and ended our trip with a performance in the Magic Kingdom Main Street Parade. Thank you to our directors, chaperones and students for a fantastic trip!

We also want to send out a special message to our seniors...

From COVID marching band, to winning our first BOA regional, to creating something extraordinary out of the ordinary, you created a new type of Wonderland and led our band to an undefeated competitive season, including winning music, visual, and effect captions at all three contests. Our Raider Band seniors have shown the type of people they are, and we're proud of you!

WALTON BASKETBALL

Walton Basketball has begun! We kicked off our season with "Midnight Madness" last Friday night after the playoff football game. We had a blast with our players and students including games, food & prizes. Please follow us on Instagram at @waltonraidersbasketball for all of our latest updates and game schedule. We look forward to seeing everyone in "The Pit" this season!

WALTON BROADCASTING

In the three short months we've been in school, the Walton Broadcast team has produced daily morning announcements, reached thousands of viewers through Raider Vision broadcasts, and documented hundreds of sporting events. All done by a small yet dedicated group of student leaders. We rolled out our ongoing fundraiser of Birthday Shout Outs and created the Walton Broadcast Booster Club, bringing in much-needed funds to support our programs. Going forward, we are looking forward to expanding our Raider Vision broadcast offerings to include more of what happens around campus like Winter and Spring sports and possibly concerts and art shows.

The Walton Choral Department had a successful Fall Concert at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in October. The six choirs (A Cappella, SWE, Varsity Treble, Men’s Ensemble, Bel Canto, and 9th Grade Treble) presented new music to an appreciative audience and ended the concert with the traditional singing of the Walton Alma Mater and Kiss Him Goodbye. We look forward to our Winter concert on December 11th in the Walton theater.

WALTON ORCHESTRA

On Tuesday, November 14, 2023, the Walton Orchestras performed their second concert of the semester. Aeolian, Locrian, Dorian, Sinfonia, Philharmonia, and Chamber Orchestra all performed beautifully. We also featured six soloists from the Class of 2024 (pictured) Dina Arshavsky, Daniel Lee, Christian Hable, Caitlyn Chen, Ariana Syed, and Zhikai Huang.

November 3rd-6th, the Walton Orchestra juniors and seniors traveled to Walt Disney World to complete a soundtrack workshop and enjoy the Disney parks. We are thankful to our chaperones - Richard Tischler, Courtney Hoffman, Olivia Marbutt, Dana Christian, and Susana King - for traveling with us!

WALTON ROBOTICS

Walton Robotics went to two off-season competitions in October. One in South Carolina and the following weekend in Georgia. In South Carolina, we came out on top with a STRONG win with our alliance.
