December 2023
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Walton Families,

It’s hard to believe that the end of the first semester of the school year is coming to a close. There have been so many activities these past few months that time has really flown.

The fall has been filled with school spirit and sports, accomplishments in academics and fine arts and exciting news about the completion of the tennis and baseball athletic complex.

The Walton Raider fall sports season was an extremely successful one with all six varsity teams reaching the state playoffs, four of them winning region titles, and all but one of them playing on the final day of the fall season. Competition cheerleading led the way by winning its first state championship in the coed division. The volleyball team won the region championship and reached the state finals before finishing as the runner-up after dropping a 3-1 decision to region rival North Cobb. Both girls and boys cross country also won region titles, with the girls finishing as the state runner-up and the boys were 12th behind an individual state championship finish from senior Joseph Minecci. The fastpitch softball team reached the state playoffs for the third year in a row before falling in the Super Regional round. And finally, the football team took the school on a historic run for the entire fall semester, winning it’s first 14 games and a region championship, being ranked as high as 2nd in the state and 8th in the country, and playing in the state championship game v. Milton at Mercedes Benz Stadium where it dropped a 31-21 decision. Congratulations to all of our fall sports teams, student-athletes, and coaches on a fantastic start to the school year!

I would like to extend my warm wishes for a restful and relaxing winter break to all.

Best regards,
Richard Tischler, Principal

MESSAGE FROM THE CO-PRESIDENTS

Happy Holidays!

What a wonderful Fall Semester it has been. We have much to be thankful for, don’t we?  Let’s start with Walton’s administrators, teachers, and staff. Thank you for encouraging our students to participate and enjoy all aspects of being a Walton student and to be the best they can be!

Next, we’d like to recognize your PTSA officers who oversee 35 committees and hundreds of projects and events. Do you know any of these awesome volunteers? If so, shoot them a note of thanks!

On December 8th, the Walton Foundation and PTSA hosted the Walton Faculty and Staff for a catered lunch. We greatly appreciate the Walton Foundation for joining us in this event and helping make it possible. Thank you to Janice Winfrey and Natalie Collins who planned this luncheon for over 200. Thank you Keisha Stargell and to Schmoo Pies for adding to the luncheon by providing some of your delicious treats, thank you for sharing your talents with us. And of course we can’t forget the amazing parents that baked and provided homemade desserts, or gave of your time to set up and serve at this event. The Walton Chorus and Orchestra provided entertainment throughout the day, and it was a festive event for all.

Throughout this semester, the Walton PTSA has led and partnered in many new activities.  From WEB activities such as Puppies & Popsicles to counseling led events such as Screenagers and How to Survive High School, and other events such as Senior Breakfast, Freshmen Welcome Night and much more, we are proud of all we have accomplished.  We thank those who have provided us with new ideas to try, for the countless hours that many give month in and month out, and all that each of you do to make our PTSA, school and community the best it can be.

As we prepare for the holidays, vacations, final exams, and everything else that comes with the end of the first semester, our hope for each of you is that you will enjoy this time off and recharge for a successful 2024.  We are thankful for each and every one of YOU reading this now! Your membership allows us to accomplish our goals.  We wish you all a safe, healthy, and restful Holiday season.

In thanks, Caroline Whaley and Vicky Rice, PTSA Co-Presidents

WALTON HOLIDAY LUNCHEON

On December 8th, the Walton PTSA & Foundation hosted the Holiday Walton Faculty & Staff lunch. Thank you to Janice Winfrey and Natalie Collins who planned this “Italian” themed luncheon for over 200. In addition, we thank the amazing parents that baked and provided homemade desserts, or gave of their time to set up and serve at this event. All of the staff received Hawaiian Walton shirts, compliments of Mr. Tischler, and the Walton Chorus and Orchestra provided entertainment through out the day making it a festive event for all.

WALTON BAND
WALTON CHORUS

Congratulations to the following singers who will represent Walton at the District XII Honor Choir!

WALTON COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Walton Community Outreach (WCO) treated elementary students at Brumby, Powers Ferry, and Eastvalley elementary schools to holiday fun. Walton students had holiday parties during ASP, helping the children decorate cookies, making goodie bags, and having dance parties to help the younger students in our community celebrate the season. Happy Holidays everyone!

WALTON DRAMA

Walton Drama presented its fall musical of The Addams Family November 9-12. The crowds were large, and the laughs were loud as everyone enjoyed the production. Forty-two students ranging from 9th-12th grades worked on the show along with four faculty members, our booster team and several community volunteers. The students began rehearsals in late August and put in countless hours to deliver a fantastic performance once again making the directing team proud!

WALTON FOOTBALL

What an incredible season for the Walton Varsity Football team! We ended as the GHSA 7A Football State Runner-up & GHSA Region 7A-5 Region Champions with a 14-1 record. We are so proud of our players and can't thank the Walton Administration, Teachers, Staff, Football Coaches, Sports Medicine, Band, Cheerleaders and, most importantly, our Fans for all of your support!

WALTON ORCHESTRA

Oh what fun it is to play for the faculty holiday luncheon! The annual caroling concert was such a blast and we love all the spirited “uniform” options!
