MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Walton Families,

I trust that your break has been rejuvenating, and your families remain in good health. It's astonishing how quickly we find ourselves a few weeks into the spring semester.

Participate in the Georgia Parent Survey! As an integral part of the CCRPI Rating and our school Charter, we seek your valuable input through the Georgia Parent Survey. This survey gauges parent perceptions of our school's climate. Your opinions are confidential and contribute to identifying areas for enhancement. The survey will only take ten to fifteen minutes. Thank you for your time and collaboration. Access the survey here:

Georgia Parent Survey https://gshs.gadoe.org/parents

If you've recently passed by the construction site near the school, you've likely observed significant progress. The new baseball field is nearing completion, set to welcome our teams for the spring season. The bridge to the sports complex, finished during the break, is ready for student use. These milestones mark the end of major construction projects that began a decade ago, bringing all on-campus activities back home.

Sincerely,
Richard Tischler, Principal

MESSAGE FROM THE CO-PRESIDENTS

Happy 2024, Walton Community!

This semester is off to a good start as we held our routine January PTSA General Membership Meeting on January 10th. Thank you to everyone who attended. We were able to elect our Nominating Committee who will be recruiting officers for the 2024-2025 school year.  Special thanks to Bhavani Subramani, Heather Greiner, Michele Zerbenski, Shannon Eiser, Natalie Collins, and Mr. Tischler for being willing to serve on the nominating committee!  We look forward to our slate of PTSA officers!

The Family Engagement committee led by Bhavani Subramani hosted the Deadly Sins presentation given by Deborah Craytor, Director of the State Bar of Georgia's Law-Related Education Program, on January 10th after the General Meeting. The presentation addressed offenses for which children who are at least 13 but not yet 17 are automatically prosecuted, and if convicted are sentenced, as adults. Our event included parents and students, and everyone benefited from the valuable conversation on this topic.

In February, we will host the Bus Driver/Custodian/Officer Luncheon led by committee chair Sarah-Kate Bozza on February 13th. The important way these folks serve our community is so appreciated, and we look forward to the annual lunch celebration in their honor! Also, Sima Valvani & Michele Zerbenski are organizing our Bars & Letters Event for this month to celebrate so many outstanding students in our Walton community!

The Career Fair is being planned for March 13th by LeRuth Bell and committee. If you are interested in being a Career Fair coach, please look for more information in our Sunday evening e-blasts. All of our students benefit from this exciting event!

In April we look forward to the annual Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week. Terri Ellsworth and Payal Patel are planning a wonderful week of special events to honor our fabulous Walton faculty.

A huge thank you to Cindie Franklin-Katz, Natalie Collins, Tiffany Whittington, and Shannon Eiser, our chairs who coordinate teams of wonderful volunteers to assist each day on campus! Thank you to these teams! Our E-Blast chairs, Amy Crowell & Stephanie Saxon, keep us informed of news & events around campus. Be on the lookout for sign-ups and opportunities to volunteer for all of these events this semester in our E-Blasts!

We wish our teachers, staff, students, and parents a wonderful start to 2024!

All the Best,
Vicky Rice and Caroline Whaley, PTSA Co-Presidents

WALTON COUNSELING

Congratulations to Walton’s Class of 2024 STAR Students and Teachers:

Pranaya Balaji, who chose Mr. League as her STAR teacher.

Andrew Fang, who chose Doug Wolfe as his STAR teacher.

Omer Inan, who chose Tamara Hollingsworth as his STAR teacher.

The PAGE Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program honors Georgia’s highest achieving high school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development. Since its creation in 1958 by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, the STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) program has honored nearly 29,500 students, who have in turn chosen their STAR Teachers to share in this recognition. Every accredited high school in Georgia is eligible to participate in this preeminent student/teacher academic recognition.

To obtain the STAR nomination, high school students must have the highest score on any single test date of the SAT taken through the November test date of their senior year and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average. Nominee’s SAT scores must be equal to or higher than the 2023 national average scores on the Evidence Based Reading and Writing and Math sections of the SAT. High school STAR Students compete for system titles; and System STAR Students in turn compete for region-wide honors in the 12 STAR Regions (a listing of the 12 STAR Regions is provided on the last page of the STAR Manual). Region Winners compete for state PAGE STAR scholarships and awards. High school STAR Students are asked to name their STAR Teachers, who continue with their STAR Students at every level of the program.

WALTON DRAMA

The Walton Drama Club and the International Thespian Society spearheaded 2 major service projects during the fall semester.

The Thespians collected food for a local Veteran's Emergency Food bank as part of the Trick or Treat so Kids Can Eat (TOTS eat) initiative. Students distributed fliers and collection bags throughout the community prior to Halloween, then collected the donations afterward.  The food collected almost filled the space allocated for the entire food bank!

The Walton Drama Club wrapped teacher doors in holiday paper before exams. All monies collected went to purchase necessities for a local family in need. Through the generosity of our teachers and dedication of the Drama students, almost 100 doors were wrapped raising over $450!
