September 2025
LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Raider Family,

As we wrap up the first six weeks of the school year, I want to take a moment to reflect on the tremendous start we have had together. Our students and staff have worked hard to set a positive tone for the year, and their efforts are already showing results both in the classroom and beyond. Academically, we are proud to share that we have 24 National Merit Semifinalists, an achievement that highlights the dedication and talent of our students as well as the commitment of our teachers and families who support them. In classrooms across all grade levels, students are engaging deeply in learning, setting goals, and demonstrating the excellence we strive for as a school community.

Our athletic programs are also off to an exciting start. From the energy on Friday nights to strong performances across fall sports, our student-athletes have shown grit, teamwork, and school spirit. Their success reflects not only their hard work but also the support of coaches, families, and fans who cheer them on. As we head into Fall Break, I hope you take time to relax, recharge, and enjoy time with family and friends. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready to celebrate Homecoming Week, one of the highlights of our school year when we come together to honor tradition, showcase our pride, and create lasting memories.

Thank you for your continued support of our students and staff. Together, we are building a strong foundation for an outstanding year ahead.

With Raider Pride,

Stephanie Santoro

MESSAGE FROM THE CO-PRESIDENTS

We made it through the first six weeks of school! WOW, was that a busy one?!? For some of us, it was stepping into uncharted waters and others it was the beginning of their last year at Walton. Take a moment to pat yourself on the back for launching into another incredible school year and also thank those around you who made it all happen…

PTSA volunteers do great things to support our faculty, staff, and students. For events in August and September, we recognize the following committees and chairs and their team of volunteers for their time and effort.

  • E-blast Weekly Newsletters & Social Media: Stephanie Saxon is joined this year by Jenny Mason to create and send you the Sunday e-Blast each week. Jennifer Pila is stepping into the role of handling our social media posts and off to a great start! Be sure to follow us on Facebook @WHSPTSA and Instagram @waltonptsasocialmedia

  • Welcome Back Staff Lunch: Heather Quinn organized a welcome back Fajita Bar lunch for our faculty and staff. She and our band of volunteers had a ton of prizes and smiles to kick off the staff’s school year.

  • Health and Wellness: Heather Quinn single-handedly planned and organized this year’s health and hygiene bags. Those wipes, tissues, and hand sanitizer packs were all the rage. Thank goodness she was here to help keep our staff and students a little healthier!

  • Attendance Office, Copy Crew, and Front Office: Melissa Radke, Shannon Eiser, Susana Capper, and Cortney Morgan have once again lifted an incredible load. The continuous organization of volunteers and schedule is a feat within itself. We couldn’t do it without you ladies! And a big thanks to those who come in to volunteer each week!

  • Newcomer’s Network: Heather Quinn did an amazing job welcoming our new 10th-12th grade families. As a new family it’s a lot to learn. Their Walton 101 presentation is the ultimate guidebook to starting the year off on the right foot.

  • Raider Review: Marlene Cohn has stepped up to keep the communication flowing! She gathers news and accomplishments from around Walton for our monthly Raider Review newsletter. She also continues to manage our website at waltonptsa.org

  • Membership: Jessica Loewy has us on our way to meeting our PTSA goals with almost 100% staff participation, and over 1,200 members!

  • Freshman Welcome: Heather Quinn with a team of volunteers, delivered the game winning kick! The Freshman Welcome for the class of 2029 was bigger and better than it’s ever been. Let’s go Raiders!

  • Community Outreach: We can’t thank Susan Thrash enough for her years, and we mean years of service! She has again led and organized this year’s Walton Community Outreach student groups to serve our underprivileged schools and local nursing homes.  Thank you for your incredible impact our on community!

  • Reflections: Melissa Radke is ready to receive submissions for the annual National PTA Reflections contest. This year’s theme is “I Belong”. Let your child’s talent shine!

  • Executive Board of Walton PTSA: To our fearless leadership! Amy Crowell, Heather Quinn, Cortney Morgan, Kristina Cofer, Payal Patel, and Jessica Loewy give hours of support to our PTSA committees, partners, and Walton cluster schools. They are a fantastic team. Next time you see them, please thank them for all they do day in and day out. We appreciate this great team!

Thank you all for supporting Walton’s active and vibrant PTSA.

All the best,

Clare Schueren & Liz Neville

EAST COBBER PARADE

Showing our Raider pride in the East Cobber parade on Saturday, September 13th!  Congratulations to our Teacher of the Year Jasenda League and our Classified Employee of the Year Sandra Guevara.

Foundation Hosts Study Skill Seminars to Launch the New School Year

To kick off the 2025–26 school year, the Walton High School Foundation welcomed learning specialist Natalie Collins to lead a series of impactful seminars designed to equip students and parents with essential academic strategies.

Over the course of three dynamic sessions, Mrs. Collins provided expert coaching on effective note-taking techniques, study habits, and time management skills—key tools to support academic success throughout the year. The seminars were well-received and highly attended, serving over 140 Walton families.

The Foundation extends its appreciation to event chair Brittany Reed for her leadership in organizing this valuable initiative. Her efforts helped ensure a confident start to the school year for Walton students and their families.

Walton’s 2025 “Name a Classroom” honoree: Dr. Sarah “Sally” J. Snider

The Walton Foundation offers a unique opportunity to name a classroom with a generous donation of $5,000 to the capital campaign. Contributors at this tier are eligible to dedicate an etched glass plaque at the entrance of the classroom with the name of the family or honorary designee.

With gratitude, the Walton High School Foundation recognizes our 2025 “Name a Classroom” donor family. Our donor family honored Dr. Sarah J. Snider, a distinguished collegiate educator and debate coach, who also was an aficionado of motorcycles as well as a beloved parent and grandparent.

Dr. Snider was born in a small town in Tennessee and was the first in her valley to attend college, entering the University of Tennessee at age 17. She went on to earn her doctorate in education and served as a professor and student teaching coordinator at UT, later teaching at several colleges in the state.

Known for her fearless spirit and unconventional methods, Dr. Snider inspired generations of students—whether coaching integrated sports teams in the South during the 1960s, establishing a nationally competitive community college debate team, or running a cattle and emu farm.

In retirement, she traveled the country on a Harley before embracing her favorite role: Grandma. Dr. Snider’s legacy lives on in the lives of her students, colleagues, and loved ones.

WALTON COUNSELING

On Wednesday, September 10, officials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names of over 16,000 Semifinalists in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 6,870 Merit Scholarship awards. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist standing.  Approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.  Please join us in congratulating these 24 scholars!

Congrats to varsity softball freshman Isla S. for being named CCSD female athlete of the week!

WALTON VOLLEYBALL

The Walton Volleyball team has had a tremendous start to the year under new head coach Ashley Jones. Walton was victorious in the Inaugural Backyard Brawl, the state’s first outdoor volleyball match against Pope. The Raiders have gone on to several more victories that have assisted Coach Jones in being honored as the CCSD Coach of the Month and Addison C. being awarded the District Athlete of the Week.

Varsity Volleyball won the Rally tournament in mid-September. Sophomore Janie Murray was named tournament MVP. Seniors Simone Searles and Ashley Gomes along with junior Scarlett Holden were named to the all tournament team. Way to go Raiders!
