WALTON PTSA COMMITTEES

 

Walton High School’s Parent Teacher Student Association organizes and assists with over 40 events during the school year, serving the Walton students, faculty, staff, administration, and families.  We provide our community with timely communications via email, social media, our website, and more.  PTSA provides our students with a student agenda to encourage organizational skills with other programs to promote strong study skills and classroom success.  A complete list of programs, events, and services is listed below.  Take a look, and then visit the Volunteer Page to lend a hand.  We look forward to partnering with you!  

  

COMMUNICATION SERVICES

E-Blasts are emailed on Sunday evenings and contain pertinent and timely information from PTSA, Foundation, Walton athletics, clubs, and administration.  Join PTSA now in order to receive the weekly emails.  

 

Newsletters: Raider Review is our e-newsletter that “Inspires and Applauds,” containing stories to highlight our students, clubs, teams, and organizations, as well as other accomplishments.  The Raider Review is usually distributed monthly. 

 

Social Media: Information about school events and opportunities is shared via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

 

Student Agendas are provided for each student with PTSA funds. A limited number of replacement agendas are available for $10.   

 

PTSA's Student Directory can be accessed automatically once you Join PTSA.  The online directory lists all who have signed up to be included.  You may opt to not appear in the directory as well. 

 

Walton Calendar:  All PTSA, Foundation, school, and athletic events can be found on the Walton website.  PTSA-specific events are color-coded in yellow under the Categories button. 

 

Website: PTSA sponsors the WHS website and manages the PTSA website to keep parents informed and involved. 

 

PROGRAMS, EVENTS, VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES  

Attendance Office (PPO) Volunteers assist students and parents in resolving matters of attendance. 

  

Bars and Letters are academic awards.  Students who earn a 4.0 or higher for the entire academic school year will be awarded an Academic Letter. Students who do so in a subsequent year will be awarded an Academic Bar.  This committee helps with the ceremony and reception to honor these high achievers.   

 

Book Room Volunteers help at the beginning and end of each semester with the distribution and collection of school textbooks, calculators, and devices. 

  

Bus Driver Appreciation is organized to honor and treat Walton’s bus drivers.  PTSA enjoys this opportunity to appreciate the people who safely transport our children to and from school. 

 

Career Fair is held in the Spring.  Volunteers assist in obtaining speakers and professionals to attend.  Volunteers assist with set up, lunch for the participants, and clean up. 

 

Clean Sweep is held once or twice a year to give our school a good cleaning; community service hours are awarded to participating students. 

  

Community Hospitality Committee provides groceries to local school pantries to support food-insecure families within our community.    

 

Community Outreach Committee and Club Parents mentor and advise groups of students who are volunteering at ASP programs at Cobb Elementary Schools, at an assisted living center, cooking for needy families, and other special projects.  Visit the club’s website for details.  Parents are vital to the operation of this committee, serving as chaperones and mentors. 

 

Copy Crew Volunteers assist with copying papers for teachers and administrators. 

 

East Cobber Parade volunteers coordinate floats and cars for the annual East Cobber Parade in September.  We honor our Teacher of the Year and Classified Employee of the Year at this time. 

 

Faculty Lunch & Learn Programs are hosted throughout the year for small groups of teachers and administrators as they participate in continuing education needs. 

 

Freshman Welcome Committee provides a social function to welcome the freshman class to Walton.  Freshmen are invited to attend a 9th-grade football game to "learn the ropes."

 

Front Office Volunteers assist students, parents, and visitors who visit the front office.  Most volunteers sign up for a 3-hour shift, 1-2 times a month.  You can also serve as a last-minute substitute if you cannot commit that far in advance. 

 

Health and Wellness Committee sponsors several initiatives to encourage the health and safety of our Walton family.  Hygiene kits are distributed to each classroom, usually including Kleenex, hand sanitizer, wipes, and more.  Programs to promote healthy lifestyles are offered during Health classes, during WEB, and through student and parent seminars.  In coordination with state and national PTSA health initiatives, this committee disseminates educational literature through our website and social media. 

 

Hearing and Vision Screening of Walton students is coordinated and conducted by this PTSA Committee each year. 

   

Legislative Committee monitors legislation affecting our students, educates our community, and lobbies according to PTA legislative priorities. 

 

Media Center Volunteers assist with tasks as needed by the media center specialists. 

 

Membership, perhaps the most important of all PTSA committees, facilitates our PTSA membership drive.  Without your membership, we would not be able to conduct all of the programs and events that make our school superior!  

 

Newcomer’s Network welcomes families transferring to our school.  Newcomers are encouraged to check out the Walton A to Z booklet and the Walton 101 PowerPoint, both found on the PTSA homepage.  Newcomer’s Network sessions are held at the beginning of each semester.  

  

Officer and Custodian Appreciation thanks our Cobb County Police Officer and Custodians with a special meal and notes of gratitude. 

  

Online Orientation is completed by parents and students to join the PTSA and Foundation, order vocabulary books and other school-required items, purchase school lunches, and more.  Freshmen and their parents are invited to tour the school, guided by dedicated student ambassadors. 

 

Raider Pride Awards are given to chosen students in the fall and spring. Nominated by faculty members, the Raider Pride Awards recognize integrity, honesty, and kindness. PTSA helps to organize the ceremony and reception.  PTSA also sponsors two Raider Pride scholarships for seniors each year. 

  

Reflections National PTSA Program: This cultural arts competition invites all students to submit entries in any of the following areas: Visual Arts Photography, Literature, Music Composition, Dance Choreography, and Film Production.  Unleash your creativity! 

  

Senior Breakfast is an exciting morning in the fall for the seniors which includes breakfast, class picture, and a Walton tradition: The Price Is Right.  

  

Senior Evening of Inspiration is held prior to graduation; the PTSA works with students to design and organize this very special event for our seniors and their families. 

  

Senior Picnic celebrates our seniors each spring.  The PTSA organizes and staffs this event which includes games, raffles, and a catered lunch. 

 

Teacher Appreciation Week is held in February to show our faculty and staff how thankful the Walton community is for their dedication and servicePTSA spoils our teachers with home-baked goods, catered lunch, raffle prizes, notes of gratitude, and much more. 

 

Requests for Teacher Grants are submitted to the committee chair who reviews each request with the administration and the school's bookkeeper.  

 

Teacher Lunches, Breakfasts, and Treats are coordinated for our faculty and staff to show our gratitude for their commitment to our children.  Teachers start each new school year with the annual Back to School Lunch. Teachers are also treated to breakfast following the PSAT testing.
